Before Matthew Perry passed away, Perry revealed who he had hoped would play him in the biopic he planned to write about his life.
According to Perry himself, the actor had hoped his one-time co-star Zac Efron would take on the role. Perry and Efron worked together on the hit movie, Seventeen Again. Efron played Perry’s younger self in the movie.
Now, Efron is responding to Perry’s wishes and sharing how he feels about losing Perry, whom he called his mentor.
“Of course, I’m devastated for his loss. He was a mentor. We made a really cool movie together. I learned comedic timing from that man,” Efron told reporters. As for how he feels about potentially playing Perry in a biopic about his life, Efron said, “I’m honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him.”
“We will see. I’d be honored to do it.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Matthew Perry has been laid to rest following a private ceremony attended by his family, including the cast of Friends.
The ceremony reportedly took place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles. The Daily Mail reports the ceremony lasted about an hour.

Earlier this week, the cast of Friends has also shared a joint statement exclusively with People. The statement signed by Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer read:
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.
In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has released its preliminary findings in Matthew Perry’s death investigation.
After performing an initial autopsy, the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed they are deferring his cause of death pending toxicology results and a further investigation. They also have not shared his manner of death.
Perry passed away at the age of 54 after reports have alleged that Perry reportedly drowned on October 28. He was discovered in his LA home.
A statement released by public information officer Erik Scott revealed more information about the moment they received the 911 call for Matthew Perry.
According to Scott, first responders discovered “an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone hot tub.” He confirmed to Fox News that Perry had passed away before paramedics arrived on scene.
“A bystander had brought the man’s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then firefighters removed him from the water,” Scott continued in his statement. “A rapid medical assessment, sadly, revealed the man was deceased prior to first responder arrival.”
“The circumstances are under investigation by LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner,” he further revealed. “We mourn with families and friends who lose a loved one unexpectedly.”
