Meghan Markle and Prince Harry credit baby Archie for their lives changing for the better.

When Archie was born in May 2019, it was revealed that he gave “that energy to stand up for what was right for them, regardless of what the consequences were,” according to Omid Scobie.

Those consequences have been chronicled in the book Scobie co-wrote with fellow longtime royal reporter Carolyn Durand. The paperback edition comes out on August 31.

After talks with the couple’s friends and close associates, Scobie and Durand wrote on the couple’s courtship and the snowball effect that led Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, to leave the U.K. for good.

Says Scobie, “They were quite afraid of the consequences of stepping away and challenging the system.”

Since moving to California, the Sussexes have welcomed daughter Lilibet Diana in June and are “really excited” to boost their public appearances on behalf of their Archewell Foundation, but also to deliver quite a few projects planned with the multi-million dollar streaming and book deals.

“They say that the proof is in the pudding,” Scobie tells PEOPLE, “and what we are about to see is that pudding.”

Harry revealed in the final episode of the docuseries The Me You Can’t Seehow he has “no regrets” over leaving the royal family to move to America.

“It’s incredibly sad, but I have no regrets at all,” he says.

“Making this move was really scary,” he adds. “Did I expect to find ourselves in this situation so quickly? No. I think we’ve done a really good job, and I have no regrets.

“I’m now more comfortable in my own skin. I don’t get panic attacks. I’ve learned more about myself in the last four years than I have in the 32 years before that. I have my wife to thank for that.

“You know, we’ve got a beautiful little boy, and he keeps us busy, keeps us running around. He makes us laugh every day, which is great. We got two dogs, and then another little baby girl on the way. I never dreamt that.”

In addition, Harry believes his mother, Princess Diana, would be immensely proud of him.

“I have no doubt that my mum would be incredibly proud of me. I’m living the life that she wanted to live for herself, living the life that she wanted us to be able to live,” Harry says on the show, which he coproduced with Oprah Winfrey. “So, not only do I know that she’s incredibly proud of me, but that she’s helped me get here. And I’ve never felt her presence more as I have done over the past year.”
