Young Mom of 2 Says It’s ‘Mother’s Day Not Grandmother’s Day’

“It’s Mother’s Day, not Grandmother’s Day.”

A young mom of two is sharing why she doesn’t celebrate the other moms in her life on Mother’s Day. And same goes with Father’s Day.

Emily Weiner went viral on TikTok when she shared her opinion on Mother’s Day with her followers. As Emily explained, she “established these rules” following her first Mother’s Day, when she “spent the whole day coordinating grandparent visits.”

“I didn’t get to do anything for myself and I was like, ‘I’m not doing this again,’” she explained. So now, she and her husband make plans ahead of time.

“I like to usually go out to brunch and then we come home and we all garden and I like to have some along time gardening and then read my book for a little it and get a pedicure and then we have like a family dinner. It’s usually just very chill at home,” Emily explained on how Mother’s Days usually look now.

But what about the women who raised Emily and Emily’s husband? As the influencer explained, “we celebrate my mom and my mother-in-law on different days.”

“We do the same thing on Father’s Day,” she reassured her followers.

Emily admitted that she knew they way they choose to celebrate Mother’s Day “may ruffle feathers for some people,” but alluded to the fact that her mom is okay with how they do things now.

“That’s what I want to do. I made the boundary and I’m the one deep into mothering right now,” Emily explained. “And so I’m gonna take the day how I wanna take the day.”

And she wasn’t wrong as her comment section was filled with varying opinions on this matter. People did agreed with Emily, revealing that even though they are moms now too, they were expected to organize the whole day, which included all of the moms in their lives.

While other people argued that their moms were in similar positions while raising their kids and now they earned the right to pass the baton.

What do you think? Do you agree with Emily’s take on Mother’s Day or do you have thoughts of your own?
